  • I didn't clear prelims 2019. Lets discuss what went wrong, what to do moving forward and the changing pattern of prelims itself.

    1. started preparation just 2-3 months before prelims
    2. I was totally away from UPSC related studies coz i was preparing for other exams. So when i began in march it came as a shock when all the subjects seemed new.
    3. Since i wasnt satisfied with the preparation i was having anxiety 3-4 days before exams
    4. possibly didnt mark 2-3 question because i didnt manage time properly in exam hall
    5. anyways agar clear bhi ho jata toh i was grossly underprepared for mains coz i hadnt prepared it well enough before hand
    6. anyways agar clear bhi ho jata toh it wouldve been coz bahot saare tukke sahi lag gaye the. but i faltered in topics i thought i knew well.
  • what went wrong:-

    1. 3-4 silly mistakes in exam hall

    2. geography was my weak point-not revised enough

    3. not practised enough full length test

    score- 101.34 (vision/vaji) 96-shankar

  • Seriously feeling down...not because that i don't lnow that i will not clear the prelims..but because after loss here comes responsibility...a big load of expectations of ypur family which was finally shattered after the results....Real big pressure...but that's the life ...you have to stand up after falling down or else you will be crushed.. sometimes i feel very sad after seeing my maturity level is increasing because after every failure you have to imagine every seen and unseen consequences and deal with them..which is not like childhood where you have to cry, get scolded or even slapped and say sorry...matter finished..it is real tough and tiring to be mature..
Just my gibberish thoughts after prelims failure...and removing my negativity to start a new day and new chapter in my life..

  • Are you guys giving/planning to give any other exam this year?

  • I am..ibps po clerk rbi grade b, ssc cgl..one decent back up

  • @Burningdesire are forms for any of these exams out yet?

  • Do share notifications of other exams in this thread plz.

  • " Untill and unless you give your TRULY 100%, you are not going to clear this examination. Even you attempt it for 1000 times"- Artika Shukla Maam

    HENCE PROVED.

  • @songitasanjay166 i agree 100%. There were 5-6 static questions which i did wrong only because of lack of revision. And you can imagine, 6 wrong answers becoming right increases score by 16 marks.

Even if i had cleared I would've thought tukke se nikal gaya.

There is great benefit in consistency. In earlier attempts i would appear for tests regularly as per the time table. This time i tried completing 30 vision test in 30 days. Even if i completed it, i cannot possibly retain so much info in so little time.

  • @Joeyisthebest rbi grade b. notification not out yet. but if you think about preparing for it, then start asap. notification gonna be released by month as per some youtube videos. then in a month exam will be held.

  • @Joeyisthebest ..no not yet..but will be out in next 1-2 month..so if you want to give these exams, this is the right time to prepare...
@Akbar_Birbal okay i will share the notifications.
@songitasanjay166 i am not trying to offend you. but from my perspective, Artika shukla maam was a doctor by profession.although she had resigned from her ms program to give cse , she does have a career backup to fall back on any time..so she can give her 100% without any anxiety..
i am saying this because not having a job while giving this highly uncertain exam is one of most important point which is affecting me and my preparation right now..
Just my perspective...if anyone have problem they can write after all we all agree to disagree..

same here. have been giving multiple exams since 3 years which has screwed my upsc prep.

also if im not mistaken, her elder brother was already an IAS or something. So ready made guidance.

Does ebi gr b need separate study?

  • So let me share my experience since I feel this is the only way to let go off some feelings

    1. This was my first attempt and was on the borderline(Vision-99.33; Toppers and Forumias-102)
    2. Probably the struggles in this examination are counted on the basis of no. of attempts one has given but this wasn't the case with me. To put into perspective-The last family function I attended was way back in Nov.,2016(On Demonetisation wala day)
    3. CSE is not something that came to my mind suddenly. Since the day, I stopped aiming for being next Sachin Tendulkar(Uptil Class4-5), I every time since then stated my ambition to be a civil servant(Probably a Domino Effect). Probably this was the only reason that made me to come to Delhi for Graduation 4 years ago
    4. Had joined Test Series for GS, Essay and Optionals and given some tests too. I had given Vision GS test around 2 weeks back and was frantically calling them to check my copy early(due to the scepticism that I might get it checked at a time the performance won't feel that worthy)
    5. And see that happened exactly as I didn't wish to be. I was sitting in a Library and somebody tapped on my shoulder at around 7 and told that the result is out. I took out my Admit Card and gave it to him to check and thud, I hadn't cleared.Came back to my room dejected, took out my Laptop and a notification flashes-Your Vision Copy for Test 1243 is uploaded. Downloaded it and worst fears came true . Had scored decently well(107.5) despite the fact that this was the first GS test I ever gave. The restlessness of that disappointing hour is unexplainable.

A bit down. Please Guide and yes fallen, but not defeated.

  • @Burningdesire Yes I plan to start my preparation soon. If you have any idea about RBI grade B exam do share. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

  • @mightyraju I do understand you position but such is the nature of this exam, the unexpected happens. Last year cleared prelims, wasted a month till results were out and then couldn't clear mains.
This year, was done with optional + GS4 completely and some portion of GS 1 as well.. but did not find my name in the PDF.

This is an exam and I have always believed that it should be treated like one. The day you treat it like your love or life, you give it too much importance, maybe more than it deserves. "Nishkama Karma" is one thing you should completely believe in and internalize.

Your learning will never gave to waste - I really mean this. I know its easier said than done, but get up - listen to some nice music, clean up the junk from your room, let the sun rays come in, go out and take a break. Rejuvenate yourself. Give your mind time to accept this. But come back with lot more enthusiasm and motivation. It's a long battle, and you need your mental peace before you start again.

I will be writing a few other exams as well this year, considering age and employment is taking a tool. But again, don't follow anyone, listen to yourself and believe in yourself, things will fall into place sooner or later. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • @Joeyisthebest Thank you bhai for boosting.
